J S Kingfisher is available for workshops, lectures, concerts, and private Muzoracle castings. He is also available for hire as a composer, arranger, producer, and instrumentalist for your film, theatrical production, record, or event. Read on for more details.
Jeff has extensive experience composing and arranging for groups of all sizes, from solo piano to full orchestra, and has produced musical works for film and stage as well as for recordings. He is proficient in Digital Performer, Logic, Pro Tools, and Ableton Live, and works regularly in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and from his studio in the Sierra Nevada. For examples of his work, please visit the Words and Music pages on this site.
Jeff is available for hire as an instrumentalist and vocalist for both studio work and live perfomance. His compositional playing style brings integrity and nuance to the music at hand; his very blend-able voice works well for backing vocals and as a texture.
Jeff is available for live bookings, as a soloist or with an ensemble. His performances include pieces from his catalog as well as improvisations based on on-the-spot Muzoracle and Dice castings, which are projected for the audience to see. Jeff's concerts are particularly effective in gallery spaces.
Underlying the Muzoracle and its progeny Muzundrum, the Musician's Dice, and the Solfége and Rhythm Dice is a vast system of acoustic science, music theory, and esoterica. Having a sense of this system allows for additional layers of subtlety and meaning to be gleaned from Muzoracle castings. For composers and musicians, a deeper understanding of the mechanics of the system allows for greater flexibility in using the Muzoracle as a compositional and improvisational tool. J S Kingfisher offers lectures and workshops for students of the Muzoracle system. These events are concerts and jams as well workshops: the oracle is cast and projected for all to see, and music is generated and improvised upon with the participation of the class. Presentations can be geared toward musicians or non-musicians, depending on the venue.
There are three ways to schedule a casting with Jeff. First, at his studio in the Sierras, which is on the way to South Lake Tahoe from San Francisco. Secondly, he can come to you: Jeff travels frequently to the Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Sacramento areas. Finally, castings can be done by telephone. The latter works best when the querent has their own copy of the oracle, although that's not essential.
